Services

Opening Hours and Out of Hours Emergencies

The practice runs by appointment for all patients, and we can see you any time between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. On Saturday mornings we are open between 9 am and 12 midday. Horses can be seen either at the hospital or where they are kept.
Outside of these times we provide an emergency service, which can be contacted on the normal hospital phone number.

After Hours Telephone System

Harradine & Associates

Emergency service can be obtained by phoning our normal number ( 08 97958080). The phone will initially be answered by our in-house answering system which will give two options – Press 1 for equine emergencies, or press 2 for small animal emergencies. Your call will then be diverted direct to the mobile phone of the veterinarian on call for the relevant option. The vet will normally answer the incoming call, but, if he/she is busy tending to a case the call may go to mobile message bank. Please leave a clear message stating at least your name and telephone number so we can call you back as soon as possible.

Bunbury Veterinary Clinic

Emergency service can be obtained by phoning our normal number ( 08 97215999). This will be diverted to the same system as for Harradine & Associates above with the same options given. Please note that the message will say ‘Harradine & Associates’ and the same veterinarians are on call for both hospitals.

Hospital facilities and equipment

The equine area contains stables, with outdoor yards attached, and indoor stocks for standing treatment procedures. It is equipped with videoendoscopy, radiography, ultrasound, gas anaesthesia and dental instruments including Powerfloat.
The small animal practice has three consultation rooms, a treatment/preparation area, a dedicated surgery theatre and hospital wards for dogs and cats. The entire hospital has reverse cycle air conditioning, enabling our patients, clients and ourselves to be comfortable all year round. Equipment includes a high quality X-ray machine, state of the art ultrasound, dental and ECG equipment, fibreoptic endoscopes and two autoclaves for surgical instrument sterilization. When staying with us, the animals are housed in ultrahygienic stainless steel cages.

Veterinary Services

Many of our veterinary surgeons have undertaken additional study in a variety of areas of veterinary  science.   In addition to general veterinary expertise members of the practice have particular interests and additional experience in alternative therapies, Bowen therapy, orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, ultrasonography, medicine and birds.

Nursing Services

All our nurses are qualified, Certificate IV awarded ( the equivalent of a human registered nurse), or are studying towards this qualification. Our nurses are an excellent source of  information and advice on most areas of pet care and health topics, and are happy to share their knowledge at all times. As well as assisting the veterinarians in surgery, and helping to treat and care for our hospitalized patients, they are mainly responsible for running our senior pet and dental focus months, and many dogs and owners know Selina from their fun times at our puppy parties.

Grooming Service

We have qualified and experienced pet groomers visiting the hospital every Wednesday and Thursday, to help keep our longer furred friends looking good. A dedicated grooming parlour is part of our recent hospital extension so there is no contact with sick animals. We are happy to arrange a veterinary consultation while the pet is in for a groom to reduce the amount of travel and time required also.
The service runs by appointment and we encourage clients to meet the groomer to explain exact requirements, as hairstyles can be very delicate matters!

Puppy Preschool

The nurses at Harradine and Associates have been running evening puppy classes for almost 10 years. These classes are a relaxed and safe way for puppies to meet and play with other puppies, and learn important social interactive skills early in life. All the puppies at parties are our clients and have been checked and vaccinated to minimize health risks such as parvovirus. Our nurses also provide early obedience training tips and a huge amount of practical pet owning information such as parasite control, avoiding behavioural problems later in life, feeding, and toilet training. As the name implies, these classes are also a good introduction to more formal obedience training. We find the other huge advantage is that our puppy preschool “graduates” are far more relaxed when they do have to come to the vets later in life and most actually seem to enjoy coming to see us!

Merchandising

We stock a wide range of  parasite control products for small animals and horses. The range of products can be a bit bewildering, as many do a combination of things and not everyone needs the same , which is where our expert advice and guidance is an advantage over other suppliers. We can also help with shampoos and skin care, dietary supplements and special diets. We are happy to give advice on both normal and special feeding requirements, and stock a range of premium foods, including Advance, Eukanuba and Hills foods, and we are suppliers of “BARF” patties. We also have a small but high quality selection of leads, collars and toys.

Cat Adoption Programme ( at Harradine & Associates, Bussell Highway only)

Since  we have been involved with this scheme, and in that time we have rehomed approximately  kittens and cats. The system works in two ways. For a small fee, we accept stray and unwanted kittens and cats then try to find new homes for them.
Purchasing a kitten from us is a great idea as it gives a cat who would otherwise be unwanted a new chance. All cats and kittens are health checked and the fee includes all primary vaccinations, desexing, microchipping, and flea and worm control. This is a significant saving on the component  parts ( about $150) and we think helps encourage responsible cat ownership.
Of course, the best way to minimize the numbers of unwanted kittens is to desex your cats! Both the Bunbury  and Capel  councils have subsidized cat desexing programs in operation- it is best to ring them to  enquire about the schemes as some conditions apply.
